Romantic love is experienced by many people in the world. It can be complicated for many people to handle which is why it is noticed everywhere in literature. The poems "Love's Philosophy" by Percy Bysshe Shelley and "To my Dear and Loving Husband" by Anne Bradstreet both portray about how strong love can be and why it's so important to each others other half. The famous song "Your Song" by Elton John also relates to these two poems.

The poem "Love's Philosophy" is a short, sweet, to the point poem in which the narrator uses nature as a symbol to relate to love. She states " The fountains mingle with the river and the rivers with the ocean" and " the sunlight clasps the earth and the moonbeams kiss the sea" (Shelley). She is saying that all these objects in nature work hand in hand and must correspond with each other to work. The speaker then says that “the winds of heaven mix forever with a sweet emotion”. With this description, the speaker suggests that the physical and the emotional are connected in some way. He calls it “a divine law” that all things would be “in one spirit” and eventually would “meet and mingle”. This symbolizes humanity, and the speaker’s belief that human beings were meant to mingle with one another both physically and emotionally. With the last line of this poem the speaker asks his hearer, “What is all this sweet work worth if thou kiss not me?”(Shelley). He reveals his feelings that nothing he has observed in life or nature hold any value to him if he is not to be united with the person he loves and cannot receive a kiss. This final line intensifies the tone of the rest of the poem because it implies not only the speaker’s intense desire for the one he loves, but also his lack of interest in living life apart from her. This allows the reader to understand the depths of his love.

The other poem I found relatable was "My Dear and Loving Husband". Bradstreet praises her "dear and loving husband", whom she regards as her complement, the one who completes her. His love is more valuable to her than all the riches of the East, all the gold in the world. Her love for him, too, can never be exhausted. Bradstreet and her husband lived among the early colonies of Massachusetts in the mid-seventeenth century, where life was hard. It’s hardly surprising that love and support are worth more than gold or treasure in such an environment. The closing lines of Bradstreet’s poem declare that if they are true to each other in this world, she and her husband will live together forever in heaven. She states "Then while we live, in love let's so persevere, that when we live no more, we may live ever." Anne Bradstreet's tone catches the reader's attention so capture the true meaning of love.
Elton John tackles a familiar theme from a different angle with "Your Song". Reflecting on his love for the other partner it captures the feeling that the writer hasn't yet been able to articulate his feelings. Branching from a need to show his love in any way he can, he is tripped by his own inadequacies when facing the magnitude of his feelings for the other party. Elton John sings "So excuse me forgetting but these things I do", "You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue", "Anyway the thing is what I really mean", "Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen" (John).
Ultimately the writer realizes he has conveyed his feelings, concisely or not.  He is saying that this song is dedicated to his loved one and it seems to be that he hasn't seen her in a long time and he missed her greatly. He talks about her facial features because that's something he misses the most. Elton John portrays the meaning of love in his song "Your Song".
These three works of literature show that love is important and is meant to last forever between each other. Everyone at some point in their lives has experienced love, whether they were loved or have loved. Love seems to be the main underlying goal that we all strive for in our lifetimes. It is the one thing that we all, as humans, have in common.  The thing is that with love, it is not positive or negative; it seems to have its ups and downs. However, we still go throughout life searching for it, without ever giving up. Because of this, the only people that can make love work is yourself and your significant other and that's why it can sometimes be difficult to handle but also amazing when it works smoothly.
